"Frida: Beyond the Myth" in Dallas, Texas, US to celebrate the Hispanic Heritage Month

18 August 2024 | 23 February 2025

From her illnesses to her turbulent marriage to Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo's life is full of poetry and tragedy that sometimes overshadow formal analyses of her visionary work.

"Frida: Beyond the Myth", consisting of more than 60 pieces including paintings, drawings, prints, and photos, intends to provide a fresh interpretation of the artist's persona while avoiding biographical readings, systematic interpretations, and forced reconstructions.

Through a chronological approach, this exhibition aims to shed light on the key moments in Kahlo's life and show how she used symbolic motifs to subtly convey her emotional responses to significant events in her self-portraits and still life paintings. In addition to these pieces, there will be images of Kahlo taken by friends and fellow artists who were closest to her and captured her sensuality and vulnerability, which continue to captivate us.

I suggest you also this article where Katie White from artnet. com gives us a deep review of a lesser-known painting of Frida, "Diego and Frida 1929–1944" (1944), on view in this exhibition, realized in the occasion of the couple's 15th anniversary and given as a gift to Diego.
