"Il Volto Segreto di Frida Kahlo – Fotografie di Leo Matiz" at Atelier Via Madama, in Turin, Italy

29 October 2025 | 27 November 2025

"The Secret Face of Frida Kahlo – Photographs by Leo Matiz" is an exclusive exhibition which, thanks to the valuable curatorial work of Loris Innocenti, brings to the heart of the Piedmontese capital an unprecedented selection of ten photographs taken between 1941 and 1947 by the famous Colombian photographer Leo Matiz (1917-1998), key figure in 20th-century Latin American photography.

The photographs, from the prestigious Leo Matiz Foundation, offer a new and deeply human vision of Frida Kahlo, artist and global icon of courage, feminism and self-determination. Far from conventional representations linked to pain or activism, Matiz's work shows us a private, intense, smiling Frida, immersed in everyday life and her personal universe.
The photographs are set in the legendary Casa Azul in Mexico City, the artist's birthplace and place of death, where Matiz manages to capture Frida's inner strength and vibrant personality.
Each shot is a window into her world, a visual dialogue that goes beyond a simple portrait.

The exhibition, curated by Loris Innocenti, is the result of a valuable collaboration between three leading international organisations:
Atelier Via Madama / Gruppo Mac8 S.p.A. (Turin): hosting the event and promoting it in Italy.
Leo Matiz Foundation (Mexico City): guardian and guarantor of the authenticity and quality of the photographic collection.
Galleria Paola Colombari (Milan): contributing its experience and prestige in the contemporary and historical art circuit.

Visits can be arranged upon request here.
