The new album by the great Mexican composer, drummer, vocalist and producer Israel Varela, winner of the Euro Latin Award, was out on Wednesday 14 July.
"Frida en Silencio", published by the Forward Music Italy label, is dedicated to Frida Kahlo and her Art, through the words from the letters she wrote to Diego Rivera that relive through 12 tracks and a truly stellar cast with 20 world-class musicians. Drums, percussion, piano, sax, double bass, strings and symbolic objects used percussively, such as the typewriter, combined with the sound of the "percussive" dance of the exceptional Karen Rubio Lugo, innovator and experimenter of modern flamenco - and an all-star band for an album that brings Music to its highest levels in technical, expressive, emotional terms.
Recited by Karen Rubio Lugo and sung by the splendid voice of Israel Varela, Frida's words are the leitmotif of the album, which was conceived in Mexico, during the visit to the famous Casa Azul of the painter.
An ensemble of immense artistic level that will be the protagonist of a long tour, starting from July, with the first Italian dates, until 2022 with the international tour between the United States, Asia and Europe.
Recorded in the beautiful Forward Studio of Grottaferrata in Italy with further recordings made in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Granada, Monterrey, Minnesota, Mexico DF, the album "Frida en silencio" stands out for its lyricism and sounds as airy as passionate, for the personal style that reflects the artistic thought of Israel Varela, for deep and universal themes. An experience for those who listen to it, starting from the roots of Mexican culture, passing through contemporary jazz and flamenco.
