Frida Kahlo art animation/installation at Art on theMART in Chicago

20 July 2021

The installation by video artist George Berlin will be again on view on Tuesday, Aug. 17at 9:00 p.m, after a behind-the-scenes insight by the author on what went into creating the Frida Kahlo projection.

Berlin's creation features several of Frida Kahlo's most recognizable works including "Self Portrait with Small Monkey" (1945) and "Self Portrait in a Velvet Dress" (1926). The projection is set to an orchestral score from Mexican composer Arturo Márquez, recorded by New Philharmonic, the MAC's professional orchestra in residence under the baton of Maestro Kirk Muspratt.

The projection is taking place on the occasion of the Frida Kahlo: Timeless exhibition at the Cleve Carney Museum of Art and the McAninch Arts Center at the College of DuPage (June 5 – September 6, 2021).

Art on theMART is the largest permanent digital art projection in the world, projecting contemporary artwork across the 2.5-acre river-façade of theMART.

Projections are visible to the public from Wacker Drive and along the Chicago Riverwalk. The Frida Kahlo art animation/installation at Art on theMART is supported in part by the DuPage Foundation through a Community Needs Grant. The Frida Kahlo projection show continues through Sept. 16.
