Frida Kahlo - Her Photos" exhibition opened yesterday at the Prague City Gallery

15 October 2021

The opening took place at the Prague City Gallery – Stone Bell House (Galerie hlavního města Prahy), with the presence of Magdalena Juříková, Director of the Prague City Gallery, and Her Excellency Rosaura Leonora Rueda Gutierrez, Ambassador of Mexico to the Czech Republic.

More than 55,000 people saw the 241 images that make up this exhibition in Medellin, Colombia, and Chihuahua, Mexico in 2019. They were chosen from the more than 6,000 photographs that make up the collection found at Casa Azul in Mexico City.

Presentations were scheduled for the following year in Chicago, Illinois, during the summer and Prague, Czech Republic, during the winter. However, the global epidemic that began in late 2019 necessitated the temporary closure of cultural institutions and, as a result, the cancellation of their openings.

The images were on exhibit in Ghent until August 22nd in the spring and summer of 2021, once the process of restoring the cultural sector has begun. The Czech Republic had therefore the opportunity to organize the exhibition at the Stone Bell House in Prague from October 14th to January 16th, 2022.

The exhibition will return to North America in 2022, with two appearances in the United States: the first at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, where new confirmed dates indicate a presentation between April 1 and August 7, and the second at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, Texas, from August 25 to November 20.
