The actress Kanika Aurora enthusiastically took part in the theatrical festival at New Delhi's Akshara Theatre, which honored the theater's late co-founder, Jalabala Vaidya. An event celebrating women in theater was organized in her honor after Jalabala, a significant character in Indian theater, passed away in April of this year. The festival, which took place from August 11 to August 20, featured Kanika's performance in the play "I'm Frida," which portrayed the life of Frida Kahlo. The show, which aims to help people discover their inner Frida, was inspired by Frida, a self-taught artist who was ahead of her time, according to Kanika.
She offers a dramalogue based on Frida's remarkable experience that explores her innermost struggles and feelings as well as how she overcame them. It honors her for refusing to accept her fate on its own.
Talking about the research behind the script, Aurora said, “I read Hayden Herrera’s biography of the artist, and her journals to put the piece together. As I dug deeper, Frida engulfed me and she continued to stay with me even after the performance.”
We can all identify with Frida Kahlo. Let's recognize and honor her. Let's all live in freedom, Frida. You embody Frida. Each of us has a little bit of Frida Kahlo inside of us.
