"Tremendamente Frida" staged in Crotone, Italy on Jul 29 is an intense monologue about Frida's life

30 July 2025

"Tremendamente Frida" was staged in Crotone on Tuesday 29 July 2025, in the magnificent setting of the Giardino Di Hera Lacinia in the archaeological area of Capo Colonna.
An intense contemporary theatrical performance that gives voice and body to the eclectic soul of the most important Mexican artist of the 20th century. 'Tremendamente Frida', written and directed by the multitalented artist Ilaria Rezzi and performed by actress Maria Grazia Adamo, is freely inspired by Frida's life. Through an intense monologue, magnificently rendered by the lead actress, it aims to recount the most intimate aspects of the artist's life, her vitality, her relationship with art, love, body and heart. A painful, crazy, strong, ironic, profound and cathartic monologue, just as all women are in their souls.

Here below an extract from an interview to Maria Grazia Adamo by Il Quotidiano del Sud:

What is contemporary about Frida Kahlo's art and life that makes it necessary to talk about her today?

"Frida Kahlo represents the power of women in the world, who can overcome anything, from illness to adversity. I see myself in her in many ways. I too had a potentially fatal accident at the age of 17, but I was spared, and from that moment on, my life, my character, my way of thinking, and my strength of mind became a little like Frida's. In fact, I am an actress, I do everything I wanted to do since I was young, a bit like her, who despite all the pain became a painter, climbed mountains, did everything, and managed to make a name for herself in Paris and San Francisco."

What does it mean to step into the shoes of such a complex artist? What work did you have to do as an actress to bring such a powerful figure to life on stage?

"It's a complex job. I already played Frida Kahlo ten years ago. And after ten years, we met again with director Ilaria Rezzi, a multifaceted artist and a great painter, and we said to ourselves, let's do a new Frida Kahlo. She wrote this monologue with me in mind. Because we are similar in terms of strength of character. My job was to go through the stages of Frida's life and try, through acting methods, to make them my own. I studied her gestures, the particular movements of the character."
