“Frida Kahlo | A Revolutionary Life” at Teatro Ristori in Verona, Italy until 11 October

03 June 2026

This immersive experience takes the audience on a journey into the Mexican artist’s personal, symbolic and creative world.
Produced by CREA srl Impresa Sociale, an operating company of the Fondazione Cariverona, the project avoids the format of a traditional exhibition to create a multisensory narrative in which images, music and words intertwine in a single narrative flow. The aim is not to retrace Kahlo’s career chronologically, but to convey the complexity of a personality who transformed her own existence into artistic material.

The itinerary unfolds across thirteen stages, a reference to the thirteen months of the lunar calendar of matriarchal civilisations, guiding the viewer through biographical episodes, visions and symbolic themes. From a childhood marked by illness to her meeting with Diego Rivera, from her Mexican cultural roots to her political commitment, right through to her relationship with pain and the body, each chapter helps to outline a personality capable of blending the private sphere with universal themes.

The images, created using techniques ranging from traditional drawing to artificial intelligence, construct a visual setting in constant transformation. Rather than reproducing Kahlo’s works, they evoke their deep-rooted sources: Mexican folklore, magical realism, mysticism, animal and plant symbolism, and the continuous self-representation that has made her self-portraits one of the most recognisable visual archives of the twentieth century.

The narrative structure finds a key complement in the soundtrack composed by Luca Longobardi. A classically trained composer and pupil of Roberto De Simone, Longobardi weaves together different repertoires and musical languages, bringing together Bach, Edith Piaf, Violeta Parra, Gabriella Ferri, Mina and Florence + The Machine with original compositions created specifically for the project. A sonic texture that accompanies the narrative, alternating bursts of vitality with moments of suspension, in harmony with the contradictions that run through the artist’s life.
