Tate Modern exhibition "Frida: The Making of an Icon" is opening on June 25 in London

23 June 2026

The Frida Kahlo exhibition is one of the most hotly anticipated openings of the year. In fact, it is already the exhibition with the highest number of advance tickets sold in the Tate’s history. More than 40,000 advance tickets have been sold, giving Kahlo’s fans the chance to discover her life and work.
The exhibition will run until 3 January 2027. Given the success of previous exhibitions, there is every chance it will be extended!
"Frida: The Making of an Icon" invites visitors to discover “the extraordinary story of how Frida Kahlo became one of the most influential artists of all time, a cultural phenomenon and an internationally recognised commercial icon." More than seventy years after her death, the exhibition will highlight and celebrate Frida Kahlo’s bold and unmistakable style.
The exhibition will showcase over 30 of Kahlo’s most iconic works alongside rare gems that are seldom on display. Visitors will also be able to admire documents, photographs and memorabilia from her archives up close.
As well as Frida’s works, the exhibition will feature ‘over 200 works by her contemporaries and by artists from subsequent generations whom she inspired’. The exhibition will also explore the commercial and capitalist side of Frida’s fame, with over 200 ‘commercial items that encapsulate her art, her image, her style and her personality’.
