Over 120 shots by leading photographers tell the stories of two women who are only seemingly worlds apart.
The former a revolutionary painter, the latter a Hollywood diva and the embodiment of beauty, Frida Kahlo and Marilyn Monroe share surprising similarities, despite never having met: the construction of their public image, their complex relationship with their bodies, their most tormented love affairs, their unfulfilled desire for motherhood, and a constant tension between private fragility and public myth. An intense and compelling biographical account that combines art, cinema, politics and visual culture.
On display are photographs by renowned photographers, including Nickolas Muray, Guillermo Kahlo, Imogen Cunningham, Lucienne Bloch, Leo Matiz, Lola and Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Edward Weston, Sam Shaw, Ed Feingersh, Milton Greene, Cecil Beaton and Richard Avedon.
Alongside the photographs are the ‘Tribute to Frida’ and ‘Tribute to Marilyn’ galleries, featuring works of art by Warhol, Rotella, Lodola and Zang Hongmei.
