Visitors will be able to admire O'Gorman's illuminated houses and explore the museum's courtyards for free for six nights, from October 5 through 9 and on October 11, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
"La luz que habita" is the name of the light installation that will change the studio residences of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera as well as Casa O'Gorman, emphasising the spaces, forms, and transparencies that define Juan O'Gorman's architectural style.
Birot Lighting designed the installation, which aims to modify the architectural complex's appearance at night without altering the buildings' appearance during the day. In these special days, visitors can walk through the courtyards and take in one of Mexico's best examples of functionalist architecture under the new lighting.
Diego Rivera commissioned Juan O'Gorman to design the studio houses in 1931. After construction was finished in 1932, Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo moved in in 1934. The bridge that connects the two buildings via their rooftops is one of their most identifiable features.
