MALBA announces the awaited exhibition “Viva Frida,” coming to Buenos Aires on 26 September

06 August 2026

The official announcement was made on July 28 during SAC, the Haute Couture Week, by Elina Costantini, General Director of the project.

The main themes of this eagerly awaited exhibition were presented by Elina Costantini, Lilia Rossbach, Mexico's ambassador to Argentina, and Eduardo F. Costantini, founder of MALBA (Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires), at a press conference held in the museum's auditorium.
"Viva Frida" is one of the most important exhibitions devoted to exploring the life, work, and identity of Frida Kahlo making its debut in South America as part of MALBA's 25th anniversary celebrations,

"Viva Frida", curated by Circe Henestrosa with the collaboration of Gannit Ankori, brings together more than 365 pieces that invite visitors to explore Frida's creative universe. These pieces include personal objects, paintings, photographs, letters and documents, besides a private collection of photographs.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is the presence of pieces that the museum has conserved under the direction of its founder, Eduardo Costantini. Among them is "Diego and I" (1949), Frida's final bust self-portrait before she passed away, which set a world record at auction. It is accompanied by one of the most cherished pieces in the museum's permanent collection, "Self-Portrait with Monkey and Parrot" (1942).

Location: MALBA (Av. Figueroa Alcorta 3415), Buenos Aires, Argentina
Dates: September 20, 2026, through March 15, 2027
